Faith. What is it & how to use it?
1/10/2008

While traveling the United States one thing I have noticed about the people of God is how do they use their faith to receive what they need? This article may seem simple and practical but listen to what Peter tells us in 2 Peter 1:12-13, “12Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. 13Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance.” What Peter is saying is that he planned to remind us of the things the Holy Spirit gave him, even though we already know them and are standing firm in the truth, he believed he should keep reminding people of those things as long as he lived. If Peter felt that way, don’t you think we should today? While doing this study on faith I found in the New Testament there are 229 verses in the King James Version, which included the word faith. Now a good place to start about faith is Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Faith means we are confident of what we hope for, convinced of what we do not see. FAITH IN GOD IS SIMPLY FAITH IN HIS WORD! Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” If we want to receive more faith, we must listen and hear more of the Word of God. Many people I come across today want me, as a minister, to give them everything they need. Now, do not take me wrong here, because there is a time and place that your pastor or a minister can help you in any given situation. Sometimes in our lives no one or no thing can get us through another day (but God). Either you believe or you do not!

I am just getting started on this subject again so be prepared to hear what I am finding in my own personal studies. Here are some of the things I have learned so far. 1-When we use our faith; it is replacing something that was there before. Example: faith comes & fear leaves. Our faith replaces something. 2-When we fail, do not get into condemnation. Many people I met have given up because they fail. Listen to what Psalm 37:23-24 says, “23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.” 3-We must step out in faith on the strength of a word from God and on His Word. 4-Keep our eyes on God’s Word instead of the problem. There are three foundational principles of faith: 1-believe in your heart, 2-say with your mouth, 3-when you pray believe you receive. According to Romans 10:8-11 we have to do these foundational principles in order to be saved. Romans 10:8-11, “8But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.” We need to stay in the present tense of faith. Make sure our words are saying the right things. Words of faith! When we pray, we must pray believing (present tense) that we receive our answer. We need to believe it before we have it. 2 Corinthians 5:7, “For we walk by faith, and not by sight.” God has provided the way that everyone can have faith. It is up to us to use our faith to receive the things we need. All of the promises and blessings are there waiting on us to receive them. Let’s use our faith to receive all of God’s promises and blessings he has already provided!
