Purpose
January 2003

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. (KJV) I have started doing something in the ministry that God has given me. I have started asking God to give me a word or theme from Him that He would like me to minister on each year. As I came before God to pray for this word, I felt Him, in my spirit, saying “Purpose”. So that will be what I will be speaking on several times in 2003. So, what does purpose mean, what is the definition? Purpose-the reason that something exists or is done, made, an intended or desired result, aim, goal, determination, and meaning. As our scripture speaks about purpose, I have asked myself what is my purpose in life, in ministry, in fulfilling my divine destiny in these areas. Am I a person that has purpose? Am I doing the will of God in my life? Am I reaching the goals that are set before me? As I asked myself these questions, I have searched my heart and answered them, yes. Now there are some areas I can improve. We never get to a place in life that we can’t learn more and improve our purpose. I want to be like David in Acts 13:26, a man after God’s own heart; which will fulfill all of God’s will. Our purpose is to reach our generation with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We all go through times and seasons in our lives and ministries. Ecclesiates 3:1 says, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: (KJV). I believe we can learn from every situation, circumstance, temptation, trial, and test. We can even learn from the things that we have done right, because we used wisdom and knowledge in that situation, we can use it in other areas of our life. Each season we go through helps us to reach our goals and fulfill our purpose. If God is speaking to you about anything in your life, it is the time to respond to Him. Ecclesiates 3:17 says, “I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work (KJV). If God is speaking to you to ask forgiveness of your sins, now is the time as the Spirit is drawing you. If the Holy Spirit is trying to correct you in any area of your life, ask Jesus to help you with this. If God is calling you to the ministry, accept that call now and fulfill your divine destiny for God. There are people that are waiting to be reached. Each of us as Christians must be involved in evangelism and discipleship. John 15:16, Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. (KJV) Life is not about finding ourselves, its about fulfilling our destiny. We are planned for God’s pleasure, formed for God’s family, created to be like Jesus, shaped for serving God, and made for a purpose. There are people who don’t know God, and people who need the healing of Jesus, and many who are facing life’s challenges. The answer to all these problems is JESUS CHRIST! Romans 7:25-(NLT), “Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.” I want to encourage you to do that which the Lord has spoken to you. Do it with passion, pleasure, productivity, power, promise, and privilege. Always remember to stay in God’s presence and He will give you the provision to accomplish the purpose, will, vision, and plans that He has for your life. Then we know as it says in Romans 8:28, that all things will work for the good of us who are called to the purpose of God and do His will. Let me give you one more nugget of truth. This is a saying I use many times; you can’t fly with the eagles if our role models are buzzards. Find the right godly people to mentor you; who believe in your purpose and call. When you fulfill the purpose He has called you to do, then God will keep His promise to you. You are called for such a time as this!
