Prayer June 2001
Prayer
1 Timothy 2:1
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercession, and giving of thanks, be made for all men.”
Exhort: The word exhort is used in the above scripture and means to urge, advise, or caution earnestly. We must always exhort people. We urge Christians and advise each other about the things that God has done for them and the things that He wants them to have. We are who God says we are, we have what God says we should have and the word says we can do what He says we can do. These three verses are what the church needs to get rooted in their spirit. But it seems that everybody won’t ... anybody can ... and somebody will. It all comes down to our hearing and our prayers.
There are two groups of people: the haves and the have nots. There also hearers and hear nots. The bible says we have not because we ask not (James 4:2). The word and the gospel is the Good News. We need to lift people up. We do not need to agree with sin, but we are not their judge (Matthew 7:1). God is.
Then the word therefore is used, which means in consequence of that, as a result, consequently. When Paul wrote this epistle to Timothy and we use it today as an example for our living, we must do the things that are recorded in the word of God for us to live a better Christian life. We need to pray for ourselves and for others.
Supplications: The word supplications means to petition for others, to pray humbly to God for others.
Prayer: There are many kinds of prayers. I urge you to study the word of God and to learn how to pray. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you.
Intercession:
Intercession is an act of interceding or interposing or pleading on the behalf of another. We must intercede for those that God has brought into our lives.
Giving of Thanks: We must be thankful people because of what God has done for us. We need to be Christians that pray for others to be saved. We must get back to praying conviction upon people once again. We must weep for our children to make the right decisions.
God wants everyone to know Him and to have a relationship with His son, Jesus. We, as Christians need to pray for others the way I Timothy 2:1 says to pray. I encourage you to start today. If you are reading this newsletter and don’t know Jesus, pray today and ask Him into your heart. Confess your sins to Him and make Him Lord and Master of your life. He will forgive you and set you free! The bible is full of answers for you. “Study to show yourself approved II Timothy 2:15.” Build on your relationship with your saviour, Jesus.
May God bless you and may He answer all your prayers. Pray for others the way you would want them to pray for you!
